In recognition of the Los Altos Art Docents' 50th Anniversary, Los Altos School District (LASD) students submitted designs showcasing their creative talents and artistic inspirations. Visit this online exhibition to enjoy hand-drawn and computer graphic designs, with wonderful use of color, line, and balance in their unique compositions to commemorate the 50-year legacy of the Art Docents.
Fifty years ago, the volunteer Los Altos Art Docent program was founded by bringing art enrichment programs to the Los Altos elementary schools because of state funding cuts to public education. It has grown from 17 trained volunteers delivering 80 one-hour art appreciation lessons, to training more than 500 docents over the past 50 years and averaging 800 presentations of nearly 50 unique lessons. The Art Docents teach LASD students in TK-6th grade by combining hands-on activities and art appreciation in a variety of media (watercolor, clay, cut paper, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, and digital media).
