Building El Sueño tells the story of Isabel Merriman, who moved from New Haven, Connecticut, in the 1880s to what would later become Los Altos. The exhibition explores the new life Isabel built for herself in California while living at El Sueño, or The Daydream. Through architectural collaborations with her sister, a variety of business ventures, and what became a lifelong crusade fighting for the rights of children and animals, Isabel found a defining sense of purpose. For Isabel Merriman, the California dream was not just to have a better life, it was to be a force for good in the world.
