The Los Altos Story: The Impact of the Rotary AIDS Project

In the years 1988-1989, three local Rotarians faced a profound dilemma: how to share their secret during the AIDS crisis, and as a result, help change the world. Facing immeasurable stress, personal loss, and social stigma, they grappled with keeping their truth inside. Who could they trust? How would their fellow Rotarians, their families, and their communities respond?

About the Program
Join us for a viewing of the Peabody Award-winning documentary The Los Altos Story, produced by the Los Altos Rotary AIDS Project. The film will be followed by a discussion about the challenges faced by the production team, the impact on everyone involved, the mission behind making the film, and how the film sparked a movement.

The Los Altos Rotary AIDS Project was founded in 1989 by members of the Rotary Club of Los Altos. Their mission was to change attitudes, educate others, support those afflicted by AIDS, and convince the Rotary International organization to mobilize around their initiative.

Registration is required.
$15/person, free to Museum members
