Learn the process of recording an oral history interview in your family or community as Farhana Afroz, an oral historian with The 1947 Partition Archive, shares techniques for interviewing, preserving personal memories, and documenting lived experiences for future generations.
About the Program
Farhana Afroz will discuss ethics, etiquette, audio visual recording techniques, building your story and an appropriate questionnaire as well as the general philosophy of the oral history interview. You will receive a training packet and practice documentation techniques on available recording equipment. Time permitting, mock interviews will be held.
After completing the workshop, participants who are interested may be matched with local Partition-era (1940s) witnesses who are waiting to have their stories recorded.
Farhana Afroz was born in Bangladesh and educated in the United States. She has documented over 100 oral histories across ethnicities in the U.S. and Bangladesh. A high school teacher as well, she brings both vast experience and engaging teaching to this workshop.
