For most of their history, the tech companies in Silicon Valley were content to operate in relatively nondescript buildings, mostly built by others. But a decade ago, many of the Valley’s leading companies – Adobe, Apple, Google, Facebook, Nvidia and others – decided to build elaborate new headquarters that reflected their importance. Collectively, these buildings have enriched the visual landscape of the Valley, which had previously been described as “an architectural wasteland.”
This session will be a conversation between photographer Richard Adler and Professor Barry Katz, who taught a Stanford course on “The Architecture of Silicon Valley” in 2019 that inspired the current exhibit. They will focus on how key tech leaders collaborated with world-class architects to create these iconic new buildings.
