Los Altos History Museum and local DAR launch youth poster contest

As the U.S. approaches its 250th birthday, local students from grades 3-12 can get in on the fun by entering a poster contest hosted by the Los Altos chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Los Altos History Museum.

​Contestants – students who live in or attend school in Los Altos, Los Altos Hills or Mountain View – are prompted to turn in an original poster depicting a moment that helped shape America, highlighting an important event or person since the nation’s birth.

In addition to a $100 cash prize, first-place winners will have their art displayed at the Los Altos History Museum’s upcoming America’s 250th exhibition.

​“This contest encourages students to explore history in a creative way and reflect on the meaning of freedom and how it connects to their own lives and futures,” Melanie Ercoli, Regent of the Los Altos DAR chapter, was quoted in a press release. “Our goal is to make historical people and events meaningful for this generation, and to inspire reflection on the nation’s anniversary in a way that goes beyond parades or celebrations.”
