LOS ALTOS, CA (Oct 28, 2025) – As days grow shorter and cooler, Los Altos History Museum brings warmth and cheer to the season with its “Catch the Spirit” event, a community celebration filled with music, nostalgia, and treats. The free event takes place on Wednesday, November 19, from noon-4 pm.
Visitors are invited to step away from the fast-pace, high-tech rhythm of Silicon Valley and travel back in time with tours of the historic J. Gilbert Smith House, beautifully decorated for a 1930s Christmas. Inside the parlor, Carole Cameron will lead a piano sing-along from noon-1pm, while guests enjoy hot apple cider and treats on the porch.
In the Museum, choral group Schola Cantorum will perform festive favorites from 1:15-1:45pm, followed by the Egan Junior High School chorus singing seasonal selections from 2:30-3pm.
Shoppers can explore two boutiques brimming with unique gifts, including ornaments, children’s games and toys, jewelry, scarves, household items, accessories, stationary, and books.
“Every purchase supports the Museum’s exhibits and programs,” said Victoria Holman, Store manager and past president of the Museum’s Board of Directors. “It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the season, see friends old and new, and give back to the community.”

Los Altos History Museum began in 1977 with the opening of the historic J. Gilbert Smith House, built in 1905 on 14+ acres of apricot orchards planted by Mr. Smith. In 2001, Los Altos History Museum opened the modern building next door, which houses the Museum’s collections, permanent and changing exhibits, store and administrative offices. The Museum and its grounds are available for rent during evenings and weekends. Its collections are owned by the City of Los Altos and are managed by an independent nonprofit organization, whose staff and volunteers are responsible for all programs and operations.
The Museum is open Thursday through Sunday, from noon-4pm. Admission is free. Tours of the J. Gilbert Smith House are available during open hours. The outdoor agricultural exhibit, gardens and picnic area are accessible beyond Museum hours.
