LOS ALTOS, CA (Dec 10, 2024) – Los Altos History Museum is refreshing its Community Corner, a space within its Permanent Exhibition that celebrates the groups shaping the local community. Opening December 19, the new display will showcase artifacts and photographs from Los Altos organizations and clubs, both past and present.
“Since it’s called The Community Corner, we wanted to highlight the clubs and organizations that make Los Altos unique,” said Sophia Abarca, curator of the exhibit and the Museum’s Collections. “These groups contribute in countless ways—whether by fundraising, beautifying our town, or helping with emergency response. They embody the heart of our community.”
From civic, youth, and cultural organizations to special interest groups, the display will feature:
- Los Altos Men’s Club—The first club established in Los Altos
- The Garden Club of Los Altos—The city’s longest-running club
- Federated Women’s Club
- Friends of the Library
- Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts
- GreenTown Los Altos
- Justice Vanguard
- Kiwanis Club of Los Altos
- League of Women Voters
- Los Altos Block Action Team (BAT)
- Los Altos Garden House Senior Association
- Los Altos Village Association
- Newcomers Club
- Quota Club
- Rotary Club of Los Altos
- San Antonio Club
“Through this installment, I hope visitors learn about the wide variety of active clubs and organizations Los Altos offers,” Abarca added. “It’s an invitation to join these groups, if they aren’t already members, and help ensure Los Altos continues to thrive. Community clubs and organizations foster collaboration, provide support networks, and empower individuals to address local needs, strengthening social ties and enhancing overall well-being.”
Visitors are encouraged to suggest additional clubs or organizations for future displays. Suggestions can be submitted via a QR code in the exhibit or emailed to research@losaltoshistory.org.

Los Altos History Museum began in 1977 with the opening of the historic J. Gilbert Smith House, built in 1905 on 14+ acres of apricot orchards planted by Mr. Smith. In 2001, Los Altos History Museum opened the modern building next door, which houses the Museum’s collections, permanent and changing exhibits, store and administrative offices. The Museum and its grounds are available for rent during evenings and weekends. Its collections are owned by the City of Los Altos and are managed by an independent nonprofit organization, whose staff and volunteers are responsible for all programs and operations.
The Museum is open Thursday through Sunday, from noon-4pm. Admission is free. Tours of the J. Gilbert Smith House are available during open hours. The outdoor agricultural exhibit, gardens and picnic area are accessible beyond Museum hours.
