A letter from Elisabeth Ward

Dear Members of Los Altos History Museum,

For the last seven years, I’ve had the privilege of being the Executive Director of the Los Altos History Museum. The time has flown by because of the quality of the people with whom I have interacted. As you all know, this area is extraordinary for having intelligent, hard-working, creative, and optimistic residents. I have learned so much from all of the interesting people I have met, and I have learned so much about what it means to be part of a community.

I will be leaving and returning back home to the town where I grew up, Mission Viejo, in Orange County, California, where I inherited a house. I am excited to have stable housing in a nice community, and to be closer to my mother and siblings.

I thank the membership of the Los Altos History Museum, and the Board, for making it possible for me to be part of this wonderful institution. Your support for me, and the rest of the staff is so appreciated. The Museum is in strong hands, with a dedicated and capable staff and an experienced and committed board of directors. We also have strong volunteer leadership on our committees, and a generous, loyal pool of donors and members. I believe it is well positioned to benefit from its strength and momentum as it transitions to new leadership in the months ahead.

I will miss Los Altos very much and the relationships I have developed through this position. But at my core I am a person who thrives on change and new challenges. I hope to take some of what I have learned here about community building and apply it to my hometown, an area that is not as tightknit as Los Altos. Membership in organizations like the Los Altos History Museum is part of the fabric that makes a community strong, and I hope you continue to prioritize learning from and supporting one another in the years ahead.

Thank you for being the best part of my experience. It has been so lovely getting to know all of you.

I will be in my position until May 1, and plan to come back and visit often. Thank you again for seven amazing years!

Best wishes,

Elisabeth Ward
