Thanking Chef Chu

We were honored to present Chef Chu and his wife Ruth with a painting of their iconic restaurant, in a ceremony that was held at the Los Altos History Museum, Wednesday, Oct 21. We thanked Chef Chu for thinking of us on the occasion of the restaurant’s 50th anniversary and his offer to host a dinner in February for 100 friends and supporters of the Museum. It was truly a generous offer and we still recall the meal as one of the highlights of 2020.

The painting presented to Chef Chu was painted by Stephanie Maclean in 2018 for the Museum’s exhibition “Paint the Town II. As soon as we saw it, we knew we wanted to buy it  for our collection, and we did. Little did we know that the perfect opportunity to give it away would come in two years, and we could not be more pleased. On receiving the gift, Chef Chu recalled the early days when he arrived in Los Altos and the warm welcome he received from the community. Ruth recalled bringing their kids to the Museum to watch the trains. They could not be happier that they chose Los Altos for their home and their business.

Dr. Elisabeth Ward extended her thanks on behalf of the Museum to Chef Chu and his wife, and offered a complimentary membership into the Weathervane Society, a group of donors inspired by Bob and Marion Grimm to provide long-term support to the Museum.

We also recognized Belinda Chung. She was instrumental in working with us and Chef Chu on this and many other events over the years, and we thanked her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
