Los Altos, CA—November 22, 2017. The Los Altos History Museum is celebrating its 40th anniversary by inviting the community to a glittering reception, “Keep the Lights Twinkling“, at the historic J. Gilbert Smith House, Sunday, December 1, 2017, 5-7pm.
Weddings have contributed significantly to the Museum’s success, and those who have been married at the Museum and plan to marry there in 2018 have been invited to join members and the community for a festive evening to toast the Museum’s anniversary and their own, by returning to the location where a number of them “tied the knot”.
The event will feature music from Richard Keane, savory bites from the Museum’s partnering chefs, premium wines and a signature cocktail, created specifically for the special evening – as guests sip and mingle beneath the stars and twinkling lights on the Smith House’s vintage, 1905 porch.
In addition to celebrating anniversaries, meeting new and old friends, and ushering in the holidays, guests will have the opportunity to create a keepsake ornament from their wedding photographs, as well as capture a current memory under the Smith House Arch, the scene of many a past wedding photo.
The event will cap off with a stroll into downtown Los Altos for the annual tree lighting ceremony.
The Museum is grateful to the following partners who will be providing hors d’oeuvres and creations for the anniversary reception:
- Schumann’s Four Seasons Catering
- Karen Bevels Catering
- Blue Heron Catering
- Green Fish Catering
- Mills Wine Group
The Los Altos History Museum began in 1977 with the opening of the J. Gilbert Smith House historic farmhouse, built in 1905. In 2001, the Los Altos History Museum opened its modern building next door, which houses the Museum’s collections, permanent and changing exhibits, store and administrative offices. The Museum and its grounds are available for rent during evenings and weekends. Its collections are owned by the City of Los Altos and are managed by an independent nonprofit organization, whose staff and volunteers are responsible for all programs and operations.
The Museum and J. Gilbert Smith House are open Thursday through Sunday, from noon-4pm. Admission is free. The gardens, outdoor agricultural exhibits and picnic area are accessible beyond Museum hours.
