The Los Altos History Museum is looking for local authors interested in presenting their published books at our Authors’ Showcase, one of the activities at the annual “Catch the Spirit” holiday event on Wednesday, November 16, noon to 4 pm. We are especially interested in authors that have published a book during the last two years. Fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature–all are welcome. We want to give the community a chance to meet local writers and learn more about their books. Take this opportunity to make some extra sales by having books available for purchase.
“Catch the Spirit” features the J. Gilbert Smith History House decked out with holiday decorations reminiscent of the 1930s, with tasty treats served on the spacious wraparound porch and live music from Schola Cantorum. Authors will autograph their books in the Museum’s lush garden. Last year, we attracted over 300 attendees and featured local authors Diana Chan, Yvonne Jacobson, Shannon Klein, Donald Neff and John Ralston.
We will highlight author participants in our event promotion. We prefer that each author process his/her sales transactions, but if needed our store volunteers will process the sale and reimburse the author. We ask that authors donate 20% of their sales to the Los Altos History Museum. Interested authors should contact Vicki Holman, Event Chair, vvholman@sbcglobal.net or call 650-428-0936. Deadline is September 8. Space is limited to six authors.
The Los Altos History Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing local history to enrich our community and to shape a more informed future. Located on one of the last active apricot orchards in the Santa Clara Valley, the Museum and J. Gilbert Smith House are open Thursday through Sunday, from noon-4 pm. The gardens, outdoor agricultural exhibits and picnic area are accessible beyond Museum hours.
