Volunteering for the Los Altos History Museum is a great opportunity to be part of a congenial group and learn about the history of the Los Altos area. There is a place for everyone, whether it is sharing a special skill or trying something entirely new. We can accommodate needs for flexible hours or place you in a volunteer job with a regularly schedule shift. Please call 650-948-9427, ext. 91

Long time museum friend and volunteer Don McDonald has been added to the long list of instrumental community volunteers, as a 2010 Gardner Awardee. The Museum is tremendously proud of all of the volunteer awardees both past and present.
Museum Volunteers Help at Antiques Roadshow
Roadshow Roadies: A few lucky museum members were selected by PBS to work at the Antiques Roadshow on August 15. King and Ginny Lear (L) and Linda Eckols (R) were part of 110 volunteers at the San Jose Convention Center. Not pictured is Dolores Fuller. They saw a few museum members there having their treasures appraised.
Here are the latest volunteer opportunities:
Museum Store
Help visitors choose purchases from our wonderful selection of gift items. Our most pressing need is for weekend volunteers able to commit to regular shifts of two or four hours per month.
Education Committee
Share your enthusiasm for California History with fourth grade classes from local elementary schools. Training is provided. The time commitment is primarily on weekdays in late May.
Museum Docents
Enjoy learning about our exhibits and sharing that knowledge with Museum guests. No experience is necessary and training is provided. Enthusiasm and friendliness are all that's needed! Being a docent provides a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and make new friends as well. Shifts are four hours per month, Thursday through Sunday.
Writers
If you are interested in writing historical items for the Museum newsletter, Under the Oaks, please contact Don McDonald at 650.948.9427 x91.
Facility Help
Leave a message for Marie Backs at 650-948-9472, x14, if you are interested in flexible volunteer opportunities and would like to help in one of the following areas:
Outdoor Exhibit Maintenace: Be responsible for the machine shed, out buildings, exterior signage.
Recycling - perfect for a Scout troop fundraiser! Take care of recycling for the Museum and use this project as a fundraiser. Rental events generate cans and bottles that could be turned into cash.
Special Projects: Let us know that you'd like to volunteer occasionally for one-time projects. Exhibit construction and general needs around the facility always require extra hands.
